Buying, selling, merging and demerging with other businesses are some of the most important and stressful events any business can experience. Getting expert legal advice is essential, but more than that, businesses require lawyers who understand the commercial environment they operate in. Barrett and Co has 30 years’ experience advising businesses operating at local, national and international levels. Our solicitors bring a pragmatic approach that drives our clients’ deals to completion. Because we are a multi-service firm we can advise on all aspects from start to finish with seamless integration from all departments to offer a highly professional service.

We regularly advise on:

Acquisitions, disposals and mergers

Whilst the prospect of these can lead to exciting opportunities, they are often a testing time for directors. Our experienced solicitors will guide you through every step of the transaction, giving you the knowledge necessary to make decisions with confidence.

Shareholders’ and investment agreements

Bringing in new investment to a business is critical; these agreements provide a legal basis for the relationships between investors, shareholders and the company itself. They are especially important for minority shareholders and can provide an exit mechanism for investors.

Directors service agreements

These are likely to be the most important employment contracts a business has. Having them drawn up or reviewed by our expert solicitors can clarify the relationship between the parties and avoid misunderstanding and unnecessary costs in the future.

Settlement agreements

When staff or directors leave the employ of a business it is vital that the business’s interests are protected and that a line can be drawn under the relationship. We can advise throughout all aspects of the process from consultation and negotiation through to the agreement itself.

Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) regulations – TUPE

A business’s employees can often be its greatest asset, however managing this asset through periods of change can be difficult and stressful. We can advise at all stages to enable you to meet your objectives whilst staying within the boundaries of the law.

Commercial Property

We can assist with all aspects of commercial property from lease renewals, assignments and dilapidation claims to sales and purchases, so that your property portfolio meets your business objectives. For more information please visit our Commercial Conveyancing page.

  • review rating 5  I had a general conveyancing query and needed a second opinion. The response was so quick and the reply was really informative with a surprising amount of detail, but delivered in plain English (no legal jargon) that even I could understand. If I could start this whole buying and selling process again I’d have gone with Barrett and Co rather than the solicitors I’ve gone with.

  • review rating 5  Barrett and Co has been our family solicitors for over 20 years for various legal matters, including, immigration, purchasing properties, tenancy disputes, wills and recently employment related matters. This includes our extended family too. We would without any hesitation recommend Barrett and Co and in particular, Justin Sadler and his team for legal matters. Very helpful team of solicitors, knowledgable, friendly and understanding. On every occasion, from the initial contact to the resolution, it’s always a pleasure to work with them and no complaints at all. Easy to contact, updates where needed and the charges are well explained and reasonable too. Even though we live in Ascot, we find it easy to do most of the paperwork remotely and only visit the branch when it’s absolutely necessary. Thanks again and a very happy client.

  • review rating 5  I would definitely recommend Barrett and co-solicitors to anyone! I recently engaged Charlotte Fox to get a will put together and I must say that Charlotte made it an fast, effortless and painless process for me.. pricing was very competitive and I received regular communication and some great advice from her that ensured the will represented exactly what I needed. I have used other solicitors in Caversham in the past and I must say my experience with Barrett and co has been the best by far.

  • review rating 5  Not having spoken with Solicitors for many years we viewed our visit to Barrett and Co. with some trepidation but were completely put as ease by both Charlotte's with the advice and understanding given by them when requiring advice on changing our Wills and other associated matters. These matters were discussed thoroughly with ourselves throughout and completed very promptly. We would certainly recommend their services and have no hesitation in using them again, should the need arise.
