Jane is Head of Trusts & Charities at Barrett & Co and is a senior solicitor within our expanding Private Client department.

Jane is an accomplished solicitor who brings a unique blend of commercial application and strong technical, academic and research skills gained in the City and in highly regarded regional practices.

Jane qualified as a solicitor in 2000 and has spent all of her time since then in Private Client and charity law work, giving her breadth and depth of experience in assisting people with the various issues they face in relation to their personal affairs.

In 2018, Jane achieved her Trusts & Estates Practitioner (TEP) status, having studied with STEP during that year and has been admitted as a fully qualified member of STEP. Jane has also been a full accredited member of Solicitors for the Elderly since May 2017, and in May 2018 she became a Dementia Friends Champion.

In August 2019, Jane became President of Berks, Bucks & Oxon Law Society and is planning an exciting programme of events during her two-year term as president.

At Barrett & Co, Jane’s expertise covers the whole range of Private Client work, with a particular focus on trusts and trust taxation. Her trust work includes advising parents who have children with birth injuries and children with learning disabilities. Jane has strong links with Mencap, both nationally and locally, and regularly presents seminars for Mencap to parents of learning-disabled children.

Jane also has extensive charity law experience and was one of the co-authors of the 3rd Edition of “Charities as Beneficiaries”, published by the Private Client Section and the Institute of Legacy Management.

Between 2014-2017, Jane was Chair of the Law Society’s Wills and Equity Committee, having been a member of the Committee from 2005. The role involved Jane in appearing live on BBC Breakfast News and Channel 5 News and being interviewed by journalists from the Financial Times, the Sunday Times and Daily Telegraph, as well as legal journals and the Law Society’s Gazette.

Jane is a charity trustee of The Law Society Charity and Child Evangelism Fellowship of Britain, and is currently chair of the board of trustees of Smile International. In November, Jane is representing The Law Society Charity at the 2019 PILnet Global Forum in Singapore. In addition, her work with Smile International has involved two trips with her husband, Gary Sieling, to Uganda to visit the charity’s projects there, as well as trips to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

Outside the office, Jane is a trained musician and sings in the choir of the Royal Memorial Chapel at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. Jane and Gary also share a passion for steam trains and narrowboats.
