Jane is one of the Senior Solicitors at Barrett & Co and works alongside Hilary Buckle and Charlotte Fox in our ever-expanding Private Client department.

Jane is an accomplished solicitor who brings a unique blend of commercial application and strong technical, academic and research skills gained in the City and in highly regarded regional practices.

Jane qualified as a solicitor in 2000 and has spent all of her time since then in Private Client and charity law work, giving her breadth and depth of experience in assisting people with the various issues they face in relation to their personal affairs.

Jane’s expertise covers the whole range of Private Client work, including drafting and advising on trusts and trust taxation for parents who have children with birth injuries and parents with children who have learning disabilities. Jane has strong links with Mencap, both nationally and locally, and regular presents seminars for Mencap to parents of learning-disabled children.

Jane also has extensive charity law experience and was one of the co-authors of the 3rd Edition of “Charities as Beneficiaries”, published by the Private Client Section and the Institute of Legacy Management.

In September 2014, Jane was appointed as the Chair of the Law Society’s Wills and Equity Committee, having been a member of the Committee for the previous 9 years. This role has already involved Jane in appearing live on BBC Breakfast News and Channel 5 News and being interviewed by journalists from the Financial Times, the Sunday Times and Daily Telegraph, as well as legal journals and the Law Society’s Gazette.

Jane is a Trustee of Smile International, a Christian charity established to relieve suffering and poverty around the world through feeding, educating, empowering and development (F-E-E-D) programmes. Jane and her husband Gary visited the charity’s centre in Kampala in 2015 and in 2016 to inspect the work of the charity and report back to the board of Trustees in the UK.

Outside the office, Jane is a trained musician and sings in the choir at St Mary the Virgin, Henley where her husband, Gary Sieling, is the Director of Music. They also share a passion for steam trains and narrow boats.
