Alan Warnes Lease extensions and Freehold Enfranchisements solicitor in Reading

Alan is the Head of our Residential Conveyancing Team and a qualified lawyer, having been admitted as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives in 1984. Alan’s wealth of experience covering all aspects of conveyancing includes particularly complex matters such as Transfers of Equity, Lease extensions and Freehold Enfranchisements.

Alan joined Barrett & Co in 2014 and quickly settled in as a member of the team, becoming the Head of the Department shortly thereafter. Alan’s previous experience included acting as Head of the Property Department in a large London practice.

Alan’s knowledge and expertise have proved invaluable to the team at Barrett & Co., where his skills and experience have enabled him to identify problem areas and correct these for clients prior to exchange and completion. One particularly unusual example of this, recently, was when Alan acted in the sale of a flat with a beautiful balcony overlooking the River Thames. Alan found that, on investigating the property’s title, the sellers did not in fact own the beautiful balcony they had so enjoyed! By examining the history of the property, and locating the previous owners, Alan was able to ensure that the balcony was transferred to his clients and, subsequently, to the expectant buyers. Without Alan’s expertise and experience, this may have been overlooked, as it had been in the past.

When Alan is not investigating complicated property titles, he enjoys spending time with his family including his adult daughters and grandchildren. Alan is also a fan of most sports and visits the theatre with his wife as often as he can. He and his wife travel all over the world and one day would love to own their own holiday home, somewhere hot, where there is plenty to see and do.
