Barrett and Co are pleased to welcome our new Paralegals, Charlotte Butcher and Kanchana Kumari to the Team.
Less than a month before moving to Reading, Charlotte started her new role as a Paralegal in the Company and Commercial department. Prior to her move, Charlotte lived in various cities around the UK, including Cambridge and Oxford – the latter to study for her Law degree.
Charlotte comes from a small village just outside Cambridge so moving closer to a busy city has brought about many changes that she previously has not experienced – including the variety of takeout delivery services available!
Growing up with parents who ran a music shop, from a young age Charlotte has had a love and passion for music. Over the lockdown, she has been teaching herself to play the guitar (in the privacy of her own room) and hopes to improve on her ability and confidence to play in front of small audiences.
As a paralegal, Charlotte will be assisting the Company and Commercial Department with a wide variety of work regarding the sale and purchase of property, Lease extensions and Deed variations.
From the start of her degree, Charlotte realised she enjoyed studying law but it was only when she started her role here at Barrett and Co that she realised that pursuing a career in law was right for her. She is excited to see where this job leads her and is looking forward to taking the Legal Practice Course before 2025 and qualifying as a solicitor soon after.
Kanchana starts her new role as a part-time LPC and LLM student at the University of Law in Reading. She graduated with her LLB (Hons) from the University of Hertfordshire in 2019 and took a gap year shortly after to pursue her dream of travelling the world (which was unfortunately cut short due to the pandemic). Having completed a quote “life-changing” legal internship in Beijing, China, Kanchana embraces challenges and adventure with open arms.
As a Private Client paralegal, Kanchana will be working with her team on a variety of cases ranging from Wills and Probate to Administration of Estates, Court of Protection and more. In terms of future specialisation, Private Client is a strong contender as it incorporates areas of Family Law in which she also has a growing interest.
Alongside her paralegal duties, Kanchana will be working on a pro-bono basis with Citizens’ Advice as she believes in giving back to the community wherever possible. She also enjoys several creative pursuits in her spare time such as, writing prose and poetry, fashion and freelancing as a makeup artist.
Kanchana looks forward to working with the firm and the Private Client team in this exciting new chapter of her career.
