Rebecca is a trainee solicitor in our Private Client department, which she initially joined as an assistant in May 2019 and then progressed on to trainee solicitor in January 2020.
Originally from the North of England, Rebecca studied at both the University of Lincoln and the University of Sheffield ; where she gained a Master’s Degree in Legal Practice, focused on whether non-financial contributions should be taken into account when deciding who is entitled to a share of a family home upon breakdown of a cohabiting relationship.
Whilst studying, Rebecca also worked at the head office of a national personal injury firm, running her own caseload of personal injury matters. She also gained experience working in house at two local authorities, in both the commercial property and child protection teams.
Upon completion of her studies, Rebecca moved ‘Down South’ and settled in Surrey where she worked for another national firm in their social housing team, working alongside housing associations assisting with their housing stock, predominantly dealing with shared ownership leases, staircasing matters and right to buy transactions.
Rebecca then joined Barrett & Co where she concentrates on providing an individual and personalised service to clients within the Private Client team. She works mainly alongside Hilary and Jane assisting in a variety of matters including Wills, Powers of Attorney and the administration of estates.
Outside work, Rebecca enjoys keeping fit, lifting weights in the gym, and travelling with her partner, James. Her favourite places have been Lisbon in Portugal and the Christmas markets in Prague. This year Rebecca also adopted a rescue cat, Harry, from a local animal welfare charity and has since taken on a role within the charity to assist with their fundraising efforts for the re-homing of other stray or abandoned cats in the Reading and Thames Valley area.
