One positive outcome of the current crisis is observing how many individuals and organisations have come together to assist those in need.
At Barrett & Co we are proud of how our members of staff have rallied round to help our vulnerable clients, in whatever way they can.
For example, team members have been regularly telephoning and writing to clients to ask what we can do to assist, or if there is anything particularly worrying them at this time. Many have asked us to prioritise arranging a power of attorney for them, or to finalise a will; others have requested our assistance in ensuring that their house move can be progressed, and in each case we have been glad to help.
Partners act as power of attorney for various individuals and in one such case, we were having difficulty in arranging an online delivery of certain items which were vital for our client’s wellbeing. On hearing this, one of our assistants kindly volunteered, in her own time, to shop for the necessary items and personally deliver them to the client’s home, on several occasions.
In other cases, we have been able to arrange deliveries of much needed goods after liaising with concerned relatives and friends of clients.
We have set up a unique “car park will witnessing service” to enable wills to be safely signed, in the presence of two of our members of staff.
Mindful that lockdown does not halt ongoing legal issues and concerns, our very popular £95 hour long fixed fee interviews have been changed to £95 fixed fee telephone consultations, for the same length of time. These have been successfully continuing, throughout the period.
Many people are realising that having a power of attorney in place has enabled them to ask their attorneys for help at this difficult time, and we have been able to provide, upon request, the all-important certified copies of their power of attorney documents (without which, of course, an attorney cannot set up arrangements).
