2019 has seen a wide range of changes for Barrett & Co.
Below are a few highlights from both 2019 and the last decade!
Barrett & Co decided to start taking on Trainee Solicitors regularly around 2015, and our yearly intake of Trainees has now increased! We currently have 4 Trainees working in various departments across the Firm assisting in a wide variety of cases. Many Trainees upon qualification have stayed with the Firm with colleagues Eleanor Pearson, Charlotte Fox and Chris Miller being examples of newly qualified solicitors working within the Family, Private Client and Litigation department respectively.
Further information on our current Trainee Solicitors can be found on their respective ‘Our Team’ pages:
We will again be welcoming a new Trainee Solicitor to the team in January 2020 – watch out for their introductory piece in the January 2020 newsletter!
The Firm is keen on ensuring that staff are actively involved in charitable giving and fundraising. This year alone the Firm has donated nearly £800.00 to several charities including The London Legal Support Trust, Barnardo’s and Age UK (Berkshire). A most recent example is several donations over the Christmas 2019 period, funded by staff members purchasing raffle tickets for our Christmas Hamper competition!
The Firm’s regular donations over the last 10 years have seen funds in excess of £4,500.00 going to worthy causes.
Barrett & Co have become Dementia Friends! During Dementia Action Week in May 2019, Barrett & Co held an Information Session in our Reading office to raise awareness and change peoples perceptions of dementia.
This talk was led by Senior Solicitor Jane Whitfield, a committed Dementia Champion.
From this, at Barrett & Co, all our employees are now deemed “Dementia Friends”, understanding the importance of living in a dementia friendly community. We pride ourselves on the fact that we can assist our clients and wider community who may themselves or have a family member who is living with dementia.
Should you wish to contact Jane to discuss or would like to find out if Jane could run a Dementia Friends group for your organisation, please get in touch on 0118 958 9711 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Sue Ryder’s Southern Women of Achievement Awards 2020
Our Senior Partner, Hilary Buckle, has been nominated for The Invesco Award for Woman in Achievement in Business, one of the Southern Women of Achievement Awards 2020 launched by Sue Ryder.
For this award, nominees have to have demonstrated achievement in business, whether by starting and/or running their own business, or paving the way for other women as an employee within an organisation. They may have had to overcome obstacles on the road to success, but whichever path they have taken they will be innovators and leaders inspiring others within their chosen field.
The winners will be announced at the awards dinner in March 2020.
Networking in the wider legal community
We maintain relationships across many charitable and professional networks to advance our own learning and development. These range from attending quiz nights, information evenings with barristers via their Chambers and also regular events with law firms across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.
Our team members Jane Whitfield, Charlotte Fox and Emma Docking are all members of the Executive Committee of the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Law Society, and regularly promote the Law Society within the wider community.
