The Berks/Bucks and Oxfordshire Law Society is one of the largest in England and we are delighted that three members of Barrett and Co are now in key positions. As a firm we encourage our staff to take part in the wider legal community as we believe in sharing our unique expertise.
So we are proud to announce Jane Whitfield has become the President, Charlotte Fox, the Vice President and Emma Docking, the key administrator.
For the next two years, Barrett and Co will be bringing innovation and growth and new partners to the Society.
So let’s shine a spotlight on our highly respected legal influencers.
Jane Whitfield is the new President.
At Barrett & Co, Jane’s expertise covers the whole range of Private Client work, with a particular focus on trusts and trust taxation. Her trust work includes advising parents who have children with birth injuries and children with learning disabilities. Jane has strong links with Mencap, both nationally and locally, and regularly presents seminars for Mencap to parents of learning-disabled children.
Jane also has extensive charity law experience and was one of the co-authors of the 3rd Edition of “Charities as Beneficiaries”, published by the Private Client Section and the Institute of Legacy Management.
Between 2014-2017, Jane was Chair of the Law Society’s Wills and Equity Committee, having been a member of the Committee from 2005. The role involved Jane in appearing live on BBC Breakfast News and Channel 5 News and being interviewed by journalists from the Financial Times, the Sunday Times and Daily Telegraph, as well as legal journals and the Law Society’s Gazette.
If you want Jane to speak to your organisation about her specialist subjects, please do get in touch.
Charlotte Fox is the new Vice-President.
She’s a key member of our ever-expanding Private Client department.
Charlotte joined Barrett & Co in August 2013 and assisted throughout the firm as a Legal Support Assistant before becoming a Trainee Solicitor in September 2014 and qualifying into our Private Client department in September 2016. She studied Law at Oxford Brookes University and completed her post-graduate studies at the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice before joining Barrett & Co.
Charlotte has helped hundreds of clients with Wills, Probate, Trusts and Powers of Attorney. She is also heavily involved in the marketing of the firm and took on the role of Marketing Manager at the beginning of 2019.
She is a keen runner, completing the Cardiff Half Marathon 2015 and the Oxford Town and Gown 10km 2016 and 2017, and has completed her PADI Dive Master qualification. You will also find her at the heart of many of our charitable and community causes we support.
Emma is the new administrator.
Emma joined Barrett & Co at the beginning of 2016 as a Legal Support Assistant working in both the Family and Litigation departments, and supporting the Residential Conveyancing team.
She is now a full-time Paralegal in our Residential Conveyancing team, working closely with our Conveyancers and our clients.
She completed her Graduate Diploma in Law in 2016, and her Legal Practice Course in July 2019, both with the University of Law in Guildford. Emma intends to progress her career towards qualifying as a Solicitor.
Emma is an extremely active member of the firm’s Marketing Team where she promotes events, runs our social media pages and assists in firm wide initiatives.
Once an avid collegiate sportswoman in Florida, Emma continues to play most sports, including golf, often running our four ball events at Calcot Golf Club in Reading. In her spare time, Emma also co-organises the Reading Young Professionals group, arranging social events for nearly 3000 members in and around the Reading area.
