On a cloudy, cold and rainy day, Barrett & Co and Friar Commercial partnered up to take part in this year’s Sandford Springs Charity Golfing Event in aid of Children in Need.
Emma Docking of Barrett & Co Solicitors and Fryer Commercial’s own Simon Fryer, paired up to take part in the annual Children In Need Charity Event hosted by Sandford Springs, Kingsclere on the 9th November 2018.
Going into the day, we were sceptical of what the weather might bring (as we were forecasted rain for the entire week) and at times play was difficult. Towards the end of the 18 holes, we were able to hold our own and points accrued in a spectacular shotgun start event, with each pair playing against another pair and with scores based on the better ball.
The day involved at least 30 people, whose skill set ranged from beginner to professional, joining a very enthusiastic Sandford Springs staff who were decorated in Pudsey and Children in Need related attire to show their support.
Starting the day off right with coffee, tea and bacon rolls, all teams headed to their designated hole before the 9:30 start time. After five hours of play and 18 holes later, we all headed into the beautiful Sandford Springs clubhouse for a few relaxing pints and a hot roast – which was more than welcome after playing in the cold and rain. The day ended with awards and more importantly, the tallying of all monies raised on the day which would then go to Children in Need. This totalled just over £1,500.00, for which Sandford Springs were grateful.
Despite our inconsistent play and below par weather, we didn’t let that dampen our spirits, which took us to the start of the weekend.
Barrett & Co also helped to raise money for Children in Need by having a bake sale and ‘dress down Friday.’
