Barrett & Co participated in Will Aid

Barrett & Co has once again participated in Will Aid this year and the Private Client team set aside 30 appointments in November in aid of the scheme. The department has been busy this past month preparing Wills. Last year the firm raised £5,260 and were named as top donating solicitors for a small law firm. We hope to be able to the same again this year.

Barrett & Co participated in Will AidWill Aid is a scheme that offers the opportunity to make a Will at participating solicitors in exchange for a donation to one of nine charities which include Christian Aid, NSPCC and Age UK. Solicitors participating in the scheme waive their fees for these meetings and freely give their time to this scheme.

Making a Will is one of the most important things you can do, as it ensures that your estate is divided in accordance with your wishes. Current research shows that over half of the UK population die without a valid will, meaning their estate is dealt with under the intestacy rules. These rules set out a list of blood relatives who can inherit the estate, but they exclude certain people, such as unmarried partners and stepchildren, from having any entitlement.

Barrett & Co has been involved in Will Aid for many years and has raised almost £40,000 over the years for this worthwhile cause. This money is used to help a number of charitable projects throughout the world. For example, £90 will help pay for 40 organic gardens in Zambia to receive tomato seeds, and £3,700 will pay for the design and materials of a small reservoir in the Andes providing water to a remote Andes village in Bolivia. Overall, the firm's total fund raising efforts have helped fund projects in some of the world's poorest communities.
