Justin Sadler attends the Opening of Court Ceremony

On Friday 7th October 2016, Litigation Partner Justin Sadler attended the Ceremonial Service for the opening of the Crown Court at the start of the Judicial Year at Reading Minster on behalf of Barrett and Co.

In attendance at the service were the ceremonial officers of the county including the High Sheriff of Berkshire, a role that has been filled uninterrupted since before the Norman Conquest; the Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire, who is the Queen’s Personal Representative in the County; and the Mayor of Reading and other Civic dignitaries. Representing the legal profession were judges of Reading’s criminal and civil courts, who were led by a member of the High Court, Mr Justice Spencer, all dressed in their ceremonial robes, as well as members of the local legal profession.

The service was led by the Bishop of Reading and featured a selection of readings, prayers, and hymns designed to mark this important occasion, which has been held in Reading since 1681.
